Our rabbitry is small for a reason!
We believe in sustainable living and practice permaculture principles.
Lupin Lapin Rabbitry is a synergistic part of that process.
We are traditional feeders and our rabbits are integral garden partners:
cycling local plant materials into manure and helping to create high quality soil from sand.
Our choice of the less common Lilac Breed of rabbit for this task is due to its compact size, sturdy constitution and calm, friendly personalities. Being pretty is just a bonus perk.
Our concentration is on conservation of this 100-year-old breed, while focusing on improving overall quality, temperament and physical appearance of these beautiful animals.
National Club Sweepstakes placing:
From 2012-2019, we placed TOP 5 in national sweepstakes points for the past 8 years in a row!
Since 2020 -we stepped back from showing due to personal health issues.
Our Lilacs still managed to place #6 : Out of 24 Open participants.
2021 Julie placed #2 & Michael was #5
2022 6th place. (We were still unable to show very much, but our Lilacs did well!)
2023 & 2024TBD

Rarity of the Lilac Breed rabbit:
The Livestock Conservancy lists Lilac Breed rabbits as a 'watched' breed on their conservation priority list, which means that there are fewer than 200 annual registrations in the United States and an estimated global population of less than 2,000.
Rare Breeds Rabbit List categorizes Lilacs as #11 (Previously #8) of 16 breeds in danger of disappearing.
